The phrase ‘solera’ describes a wine making course of from Spain whereby previous and new wines are incrementally blended, the ages combining to create one thing unique and revolutionary. Right here at Sadler’s Wells, 81 12 months previous virtuoso guitarist Paco Peña takes to the stage along with his Paco Peña Dance Firm made up of each mature and younger performers. Their manufacturing, Solera, equally sees the traditions of flamenco handed on, reinvigorated and reimagined in an electrifying fusion as distinctive musicians, dancers and singers meld their distinctive expertise to create an exhilarating night of efficiency and keenness that’s solely breathtaking.

Because the present begins we hear the sounds of on a regular basis life round us (Lauren Serrano). Vehicles rush previous horns honking, birds sing and quite a lot of bizarre folks speaking in to their telephones emerge onto the stage; an identical of their isolation.

Moments later they’re an organization within the rehearsal room, coats off, telephones put away, and alter begins. Organically the performers begin to present glimpses of what they do. Percussionist Julio Alcocer faucets the aspect of a field, and the rhythm is born. Arms clap, guitars play, toes faucet and a cycle begins of terribly skilful music, singing and dance.

It is a ferociously exhilarating manufacturing, filled with thrilling juxtapositions because the essence of conventional flamenco is supplemented with youth and invention. The vitality of human life feeds viscerally into the efficiency; from the uncooked physicality of the voices and dancing – our bodies used as devices to create a common understanding – to the proper imperfection of the magnificent Spanish guitar, its strings squeaking, given voice as agile fingers quickly discover the frets and create magic. Humanity is made chic and celebrated.

Directed meticulously by Jude Kelly CBE, the night is break up into two types, initially setting a scene of the mundane and rehearsal, then later elevating issues with color, lighting and drama to highlight the world-class virtuoso performances. We meet dancers Angel Muñoz, Adriana Bilboa and Gabriel Matias, as they show snapshots of flamenco fashion each individually and collectively. Their work is precise, athletic, delightfully playful, and utterly charming.Muñoz particularly is an impressive showman, seizing the stage with charisma and flawless dance. Immaculada Rivero and Iván Carpio are our wonderful singers, their ardour in highly effective pressure with the music and motion. Though the phrases are Spanish and overseas to many within the viewers, the emotion is simple; vivid and exquisitely shifting. Rivero’s howling anguish juxtaposes magnificently with the fantastic thing about the astonishing guitar enjoying by Dani de Morón, Rafael Montilla and the grasp himself, Peña, whose mellifluous sound is liquid gold. In his complicated solos, for those who couldn’t see him working alone you’ll swear there have been a number of guitarists enjoying collectively.

The second half is all in regards to the drama of efficiency, with hanging costume (Cariola, Linda Rowell, Elvira Peña) and evocative lighting (Tom Wickens) embellishing the abilities of the corporate. The timing is impeccable because the items slide organically between atmospheres and we maybe sit for a second within the darkness, in thrilling anticipation of what may come subsequent.

Tonight we’re gifted all human feelings, audibly and visually, by an organization linked by intuition, aware of their shared actions, responding to invisible indicators with surgical precision; a unit but in addition people. The efficiency is choreographed fantastically by Fernando Romero, but feels spontaneous and totally alive.

It is a soulful, fiery, ferocious and humorous present, interesting to a common viewers. It is going to make you snicker, cry, and sit on the sting of your seat as you realise that is what it may be to be human. Put down your telephone, really feel the rhythm; embrace the flamenco!
